16: ινα και υμεις υποτασσησθε τοις τοιουτοις και παντι τω συνεργουντι και κοπιωντι— edit Textus Receptus
16: That ye submit yourselves unto such, and to every one that helpeth with us, and laboureth.— edit KJV text
16: That you also be subject to such and to every one that worketh with us and laboureth.— edit Douay text

That ye submit yourselves, etc. The word used here means, evidently, that you would show them proper deference and regard; that you would treat them with distinguished respect and honour for what they have done.

And to every one that helpeth with us, etc. Every one that aids us in the ministry, or provides for our wants, etc. It is possible that Stephanas lived among them at this time, See "1Cor 1:16, though he had been converted in Achaia; and it is probable that, as Corinth was a central place and a thoroughfare, others might come among them who were the personal friends of Paul, and who had aided him in the ministry. Towards all such he bespeaks their kind, and tender, and respectful regards.
