2: τιμοθεω γνησιω τεκνω εν πιστει χαρις ελεος ειρηνη απο θεου πατρος ημων και χριστου ιησου ιησου χριστου του κυριου ημων
2: Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and
peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.
2: To Timothy, his beloved son in faith. Grace, mercy and peace, from
God the Father and from Christ Jesus our Lord.

My own son in the faith. Converted to the Christian faith by my instrumentality, and regarded by me with the affection of a father. "1Cor 4:15".
Paul had no children of his own, and he adopted Timothy as a son, and uniformly regarded and treated him as such. He had the same feeling also towards Titus. Tit 1:4. Comp. "Gal 4:19"; "1Thess 2:7, "1Thess 2:11"; "Pmon 1:10".
