Adriel

The son of Barzillai, the Meholathite, to whom Saul's daughter Merab was given in marriage rather than to David (1Sam 18:19). The five sons that sprang from this union were put to death by the Gibeonites (2 Sam 21:8. Here it is said that Michal "brought up" [R.V., "bare"] these five sons. This might either mean that she treated them as if she had been their own mother, or that for "Michal" we should read "Merab," as in 1Sam 18:19).

Adriel appears to be an Aramaized form of Azriel ("God is my Help"; 1Chr 5:24, 1Chr 27:19, Jer 36:26), with which it is actually identified by the Syriac version, not only in 1Sam 18:19, where Aramaisms might be expected, but also in 2 Sam 21:8
