Genesis Chapter 3, Verse 16
From BibleWiki
16: Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
16: To the woman also he said: I will multiply thy sorrows, and thy
conceptions: in sorrow shalt thou bring forth children, and thou shalt
be under thy husband's power, and he shall have dominion over thee.
16: And to the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy pains and thy groanings; in pain thou shalt bring forth children, and thy submission shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
Desire-Dominion Expression
Genesis 3:16 contains an expression that is often debated: "Thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee." This expression is referring to the relationship of the woman (Eve) to the man (Adam). It is interesting that God repeats this phrase in a very different context in Gen 4:7: "And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him." This second expression is addressed to Cain as he struggles with anger at God's acceptance of Abel's sacrifice over his own. In context, it appears that the object of the expression to Cain is the temptation he is experiencing. Thus, sin desires to master Cain and Cain must have dominion over it.
