Meaning: village of fountains

A city on the north-east frontier of Palestine that was part of the land of Canaan, which the Israelites were given (Num 34:9). It was located between Ziphron and Shepham, not far from the district of Hamath in Damascene Syria. Some have identified it with Ayan ed-Dara in the heart of the central chain of Anti-Libanus. More probably, however, it has been identified with Kuryetein, about 60 miles east-north-east of Damascus. (Ezek 47:9f, Ezek 48:1).
