31: εβαστασαν ουν παλιν λιθους οι ιουδαιοι ινα λιθασωσιν αυτον
31: Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
31: The Jews then took up stones to stone him.
The Jews took up stones. Stoning was the punishment of a blasphemer, Lev 24:14ff. They considered him guilty of blasphemy because he made himself equal with God, Jn 10:33.
Again. They had before plotted against his life (Jn 5:16, Jn 5:18) and once at least they had taken up stones to destroy him, Jn 8:59.
