John Chapter 7, Verse 40

40: πολλοι ουν εκ του οχλου ακουσαντες τον λογον ελεγον ουτος εστιν αληθως ο προφητης
40: Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying,
said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.
40: Of that multitude therefore, when they had heard these words of
his, some said: This is the prophet indeed.
The Prophet. That is, the prophet whom they expected to precede the coming of the Messiah -- either Elijah or Jeremiah. See Mt 16:14.
