Mark Chapter 1, Verse 4
From BibleWiki
4: John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
4: John was in the desert, baptizing and preaching the baptism of
penance, unto remission of sins.
And so John appeared, baptizing in the desert and preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
- We will consider á¼Î³Îνετο to be a Hebraism representing the conjunction
- βαπτίζων is difficult because of the presence of the variant reading á½; with it we have a substantival participle, but
without it we have an adverbial participle. In the light of the parallelism with κηÏÏσσων and the evidence from Alexandrianus and the f1 and f13 families of manuscripts, we take this to be an adverbial participle and translate accordingly.
