Mark Chapter 1, Verse 5/commentary

καὶ ἐξεπορεύετο πρὸς αὐτὸν πᾶσα ἡ Ἰουδαία χώρα καὶ οἱ Ἱεροσολυμῖται πάντες, καὶ ἐβαπτίζοντο ὑπ ̓αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ Ἰορδάνῃ ποταμῷ ἐξομολογούμενοι τὰς ἁμαρτίας αὐτῶν· [WHNU]

And all the country of Judea [lit. Judea country] and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him, and were baptized by him in the Jordan river, confessing their sins.

• ὑπ ̓αὐτοῦ is the ultimate agent of ἐβαπτίζοντο.
• ἐξεπορεύετο is a singular verb with a neuter plural subject.

• "confessing their sins." Lev 26:40ff Ps 32⁵ Prov 28:13 1Jn 1:8ff
