- "The text of each verse in pulled into the page where discussion will happen about the verse, allowing it to also be used elsewhere (e.g. to make Chapter pages.)"
This sentence is very unclear. I'm assuming it's supposed to read "...each verse is pulled into...", but I was hesitant to edit it since I'm not clear on the meaning. What does "pull into a page" signify? "Used elsewhere" in what way? 85.224.15.113 19 July 2005 16:02 (BST)
Is the current version any better? I've tried to clarify a little more. It's the difference between Judges Chapter 18, Verse 30 and Judges Chapter 18, Verse 30/KJV, which is pulled in automatically, albeit through a couple of levels of indirection. This allows us to include the same text on Judges Chapter 18. --TonyBowden 19 July 2005 23:32 (BST)
Well, "one page purely for the text [...] one page for discussion" sounds like the "article" and "discussion" tabs. I understood what you meant by looking at the code for the pages you linked to above. I'd suggest something like this: "This allows us to insert the text of one verse into several different pages, eg for discussing a verse or collecting several verses into a chapter. See the code of (reference) to see how to do this." --85.224.15.113 23 July 2005 11:00 (BST)

Browsing through verses
I was thinking that it would be nice if a backward/forward feature could be added to the verses (for example, on Wikipedia one can easily go between days of the calendar through such a feature towards the bottom of the page).
Great site.
- That's been on my TODO list for a while. I'd need to script it though, as it would be much too time consuming to go through and do by hand. The main thing preventing it is in working out exactly what it should be like. I'd quite like something that copes with us having different translations etc on as well. --TonyBowden 2 November 2005 09:28 (GMT)
It would be great to have a list of the books of the bible on the main page. Also, is it possible to use templates like Wikipedia? In that case a template could be placed on each page for each chapter, allowing easy navigation. BeavisSanchez 28 November 2005 23:49 (GMT)
Templates are fine - we use them quite heavily at the minute. It's just a matter of going through and adding the relevant template call on each page. The books are all linked directly from the home page at the "full text" link for the King James Bible. --TonyBowden 29 November 2005 10:36 (GMT)
MediaWiki 1.5.3 is available
Just wanted to note to the site admin, that MediaWiki 1.5.3 is available. I noticed that as of my comment, this website is running a 1.5alpha, which I'm sure has a lot of bugs that the stable version addresses. --Ymmotrojam December 15, 2005 16:05 (GMT)
Sites
There are a bunch of these and other Christian websites popping up, including: www.wikichristian.org, www.theopedia.com, www.wikible.org and www.carmpedia.org. If only there was some way of combining these efforts!
It's probably true that some of these need to be combined, but in general I see all these sites popping up as a good thing. It's bringing more attention to the issue of there needing to be a free Christian/Christian-related resource editable by anyone. Of course not all these websites are for exactly the same purpose either. BibleWiki and Wikible are mainly Bible encyclopedias. Theopedia is more about Theology and Christianity, which of course ties into the Bible, but isn't specifically about the Bible itself. WikiChristian is very similar to Theopedia. http://www.carmpedia.com (emphasis on .com) is somewhat similar to BibleWiki and Wikible, although not as far with content.
Here's a list of which site is a "better" resource when it comes to content (from the statistic pages)...
Bible Encyclopedias...
- BibleWiki (bible.tmtm.com/wiki... this site)
- BibleWiki.net
- Wikible
- CARMpedia
Theology and Christian Life...
- WikiChristian
- Theopedia

oh, and don't forget http://biblewiki.net ;-), but that one is a private wiki. You can't edit anonymously or even register. The owner of the site says that he may open in the future. Private and Wiki don'ts seem to go together in the same sentence ;-). --Ymmotrojam December 18, 2005 12:43 (GMT)
Lock Verse pages?
Just thinking that it may be a good idea to lock the verse pages. What do you guys think? I don't mean the ones that would have commentary on them, but the ones that are templates... I figure the verse templates aren't really going to change very often and they are just a target for vandalism because they are repeated throughout the site on various chapter pages and such...
Anyways, good idea or not? --Ymmotrojam December 19, 2005 02:19 (GMT)
another note on locking pages... here is how Wikible has their verses setup, that's why I mentioned it...
Verse Page and Verse Page Template (notice that the template is locked, while the verse page is not) --Ymmotrojam December 19, 2005 06:36 (GMT)
The biggest problem with that is that it stops people making text in the verse into links. Most of the vandalism to date hasn't been on the verses pages, as it seems to be an automated process aimed at all mediawiki installations, rather than targetted here. So I don't think there's much to be gained from this. --TonyBowden 19 December 2005 08:01 (GMT)
yeah, I guess that's true. One thing I worry about though is that once a site like this gets big enough, scripture could get subtly tampered with. I figure in any one verse there really aren't a whole lot of links that one could make, and that scripture itself won't ever change, so why have it open... Anyways, I know that would be a big job, but think of the credibility of a Bible site that was found to have altered scripture that went unnoticed for weeks or months. Of course there is always the talk pages to get something changed in the verse templates. Anyone else have any thoughts? --Ymmotrojam December 19, 2005 14:33 (GMT)
At the minute it's easy to keep track of. We can address it later if required. By that stage, hopefully all the cross-linking etc will be complete anyway. --TonyBowden 19 December 2005 18:01 (GMT)
Google Maps and Bible locations
Wikible is using a interesting aproach to visually showing locations in the Bible. I thought maybe BibleWiki could use a similar setup. For example, as it says on the Wikible home page under Featured Project, they are using Google Maps to show locations in the Bible. Check out the two articles Israel and Jerusalem. Also check out their project page which tells one how to do it and how to add one's own markers/labels to the map. --Ymmotrojam December 23, 2005 22:53 (GMT)
Very nice. --TonyBowden 27 December 2005 19:31 (GMT)
Joining together
This is an excellent site. Good work. I'm involved with WikiChristian. It appears that there are multiple, slightly different, but similar wikis to do with different Christian aspects. They include WikiChristian, WikiBible, Wikible, Theopedia, Carmpedia, Compass and so on - a reasonably full list with links can be found at Christian wikis under the link About Christian Wikis. It seems to me that each wiki has 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 dedicated users, which isn't really that many. If there was some way we could all agree to become involved in one Chrisitan wiki, either by all joining forces and working on one of the above listed wikis, or by restarting and creating a new wiki, then perhaps we could create a really comprehensive and useful and most importantly, a used wiki for Christianity. What do you think? If you wish to comment, post your comments on Talk: Christian wikis at WikiChristian. Thanks.
- I understand the thought, but one must also realize that not all these Wikis are for exactly the same purpose. I wouldn't necessarily combine them all together, but rather figure out what category each one fits into... For example, some are more leaning towards information about just Christianity itself, while Wikible and BibleWiki are more about the Bible itself. Some disadvantages of one wiki are... 1) If that site goes down, there's no other resource out there. 2) having more than one wiki furthers creativity because each wiki can have unique aspects of it's own.
- What I think would be better is that if all the mentioned wikis would interlink between each other. Moving all the content to a single Wiki at this point would be a huge undertaking! atleast with interlinks, each site can grow in their specific areas. --Ymmotrojam 15:29, 30 December 2005 (GMT)
only Bible topics?
One question: Is the biblewiki meant to have articles about bible topics only? Or does it include church history as well? --Benedikt 09:58, 17 January 2006 (GMT)
- maybe someone else can comment on this, but as far as I know BibleWiki is mainly about the Bible. I guess maybe it could involve Biblical history, but not necessarily church history, such as the history of the denominations and such. Just stuff that is covered in the Bible text. --Ymmotrojam 21:36, 22 January 2006 (GMT)
- to further add onto this, WikiChristian may be a better wiki for church history related content... --Ymmotrojam 21:39, 22 January 2006 (GMT)
